UNLEADED HEAD CONVERSIONS
As there seems to be conflicting views on whether the Imp engine can survive running on unleaded fuel, logically thinking, as the lead in the fuel acts as a lubricant between the valve and valve seat faces (these contacting faces on an exhaust at full power can reach temperatures of 700C+ degrees) and although the exhaust valve is austinetic steel (non-magnetic) which are used in some engines designed for unleaded fuel, however the grey cast iron seats which are adequate when (cushioned) by the lead, will not give the same intended service when is is removed. Therefore I recommend at the very least that the exhaust seats be upgraded with: Aluminium bronze (BS2874) which I use for Comp/Race heads. If your annual mileage is 3000 or less, then bronze exhaust seats should be adequate.
